I'm finding that the dialog goes by very quickly, but as I work through the lessons I'm able to parse things better. It would be great if you had materials of someone reading a very basic child-like story (slowly) in Hungarian, with accompanying illustrations. For example, "a man and a woman looked at a new brown car. The man said the car was too expensive and the woman said it was too big"

I think I had to watch this about 10 times before I could distinguish between words. As an absolute beginner I think multiple repetition is the only way to learn like this. I have completed all the Absolute beginner season 1 lessons and this was near impossible for me and I felt pretty defeated but once I played it multiple times and went through the written dialogue as well I could make out more and more. Don't give up.
Dear Robin and Ilona,
Thank you very much for your comments!
First of all, please don't worry if you don't understand the audio in the beginning.
It is going to be easier and easier, you should be able to understand more and more of the words as you advance in your grammar courses and learn vocabulary.
As this is the very first lesson, please give time to your ears to get used to the language. A best practice would be to listen to it a couple of times, try to write down some words. Then, click on "lesson materials" or "download pdf" to check the text both in English and Hungarian. Take notes of the words you hear for the first time, and learn them. Practice them for at least two days, and try to come back to this audio! I'm sure that you will be able to get at least half of the lesson! Don't be afraid to go on to the next lesson, learn the vocabulary and then start to practice again.
Listening is usually the hardest part of learning a language, you constantly need to concentrate, and understand words you've just learnt. Please be patient with yourself!
You can also slow it down by clicking at the "1X" button.
I wish you good luck!

Why lessons do not have TEXT?? How I have to understand this voises? Absolutely stupid sistem!
My earlier comment was too negative. I have found these videos very useful in fact, but I tackle them pretty well back to front. When I first listen, especially to video #1, the Hungarian is just a blur. I can't even separate the question from the situation setting from the dialogue. (Not helped by having the same actor do more than one job.) So I play it sentence by sentence, looking alternately at the Hungarian and the English and using Google Translate for individual words, and of course for parts of compound words. On video #1 I used the slow-down feature to hep fix the sentences in my brain, though on vids 2 & 3 I was able to manage without this.
The quality of the recordings is first-class, both the clarity of the speakers and the clarity of the recording.
This is video number 1 for absolute beginners? A complete mismatch with the level of the absolute beginners audios. How can Rene go back to earlier lessons? This is number one.
Every time I go back a bit in the video I have to refresh the page, then it starts off again at the beginning.
