INTRODUCTION
Michael: In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Hungarian learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native speaker. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then, through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.

Lesson focus

Michael: In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question Where did you learn Hungarian? In Hungarian this is
Lena: Hol tanultál magyarul?
Michael: The first word in the question is
Lena: hol
Michael: meaning “where” in English.
Lena: (Slow, by syllable) hol
Michael: Listen again and repeat.
Lena: hol
{Pause}
Michael: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is
Lena: tanultál
Michael: meaning “you learned.”
Lena: (Slow, by syllable) tanultál
Michael: Now repeat.
Lena: tanultál
Michael: And after that
Lena: magyarul
Michael: meaning “in Hungarian”
Lena: (Slow, by syllable) magyarul
{Pause}
Michael: Listen to the entire question and repeat.
Lena: Hol tanultál magyarul?
{pause}
Michael: You will hear this common question again and again throughout your studies. Master the following pattern and responses to the question Where did you learn Hungarian?
Lena: Iskolában tanultam.
Michael: "I learned it in school." Again, slowly. Repeat the phrase.
Lena: (Slow) Iskolában tanultam.
{pause}
Michael: Let's break it down from the beginning. The first word:
Lena: iskolában
Michael: means “in school”
Lena: (Slow, by syllable) iskolában
Michael: Now repeat
Lena: iskolában
{Pause}
Michael: And next
Lena: tanultam
Michael: meaning something like “I learned”.
Lena: (Slow, by syllable) tanultam
Michael: Now repeat.
Lena: tanultam
{Pause}
Michael: Listen to the speaker say, I learned it in school, and then repeat.
Lena: Iskolában tanultam.
{pause}
Michael: To use a different phrase, replace “in school” with “at university.”
Lena: egyetemen
Michael: at university
Lena: (slow) egyetemen (regular) egyetemen
Michael: Listen to the phrase again, this time with at university
Lena: Egyetemen tanultam.
Michael: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace in school. Say I learned it at university.
{pause}
Lena: Egyetemen tanultam.
Michael: To expand on the pattern, replace “at university” with “from a friend.”
Lena: egy barátomtól
Michael: “from a friend”
Lena: (slow) egy barátomtól (regular) egy barátomtól
Michael: Listen to the phrase again, this time with from a friend
Lena: Egy barátomtól tanultam.
Michael: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace the phrase for “at university”. Say I learned it “from a friend.”
{pause}
Lena: Egy barátomtól tanultam.
Michael: To use a different phrase, replace “from a friend” with “at a language school.”
Lena: egy nyelviskolában
Michael: at a language school
Lena: (slow) egy nyelviskolában (regular) egy nyelviskolában
Michael: Listen to the phrase again, this time with at a language school
Lena: Egy nyelviskolában tanultam.
Michael: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace the phrase for ”from a friend.” Say “I learned it at a language school.”
{pause}
Lena: Egy nyelviskolában tanultam.

I enjoyed this lesson. I was disappointed that we didn't get lesson 9 this week. I always look forward to Mondays to get the next questions. When can I expect lesson of this series?

Köszönöm

Szia!

Thank you for this lesson. I have a couple of questions, and for these I will use "tanulok" instead because I am currently studying. Anyway, are these the correct ways of saying the following:

Skype tanároktól tanulok - I am learning with Skype teachers.

internetről tanulok - I am learning on the internet (using the internet?)

Köszönöm szépen!
