Actually, you can use both.


Literally that would look like:


Elnézést, nem tudja hol van a posta? - Excuse me, don't you know where the post office is?

Elnézést, nem tudná megmondani, hol van a posta? - Excuse me, wouldn't you be able to tell me where the post office is?


The second is in a conditional form, thus it is more polite, but both are completely fine.


You could also ask these questions without the negative form:

Elnézést, tudja hol van a posta?

Elnézést, meg tudná mondani, hol van a posta?

What is the difference between:

"Elnézést, nem tudja" and "Elnézést, nem tudná mondani" ? When should be used tudja and when tudná?
