John: Hi everyone, and welcome back to HungarianPod101.com. I'm John.

John: This is Must-Know Hungarian Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 18. In this lesson, you'll learn expressions related to school.
John: Young people use a lot of slang and many of them are related to the topic of school. You can learn some of these in this lesson.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
John: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:

Lena: matek
Lena: magol
John: Lena, what's our first expression?
Lena: suli
John: literally meaning "school." And when it's used as a slang expression, it also means the same.
Lena: [SLOW] suli [NORMAL] suli
John: Listeners, please repeat.

John: Use this slang expression when you want to refer to a school. Either the building or the institution.
John: Now let's hear an example sentence.

John: Okay, what's the next expression?
Lena: házi
John: literally meaning "homemade." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "homework, or homemade pálinka, which is Hungarian brandy."

John: literally meaning "to book." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to learn word by word, to study by heart."

John: "I only learned it word by word, but I feel that I don't know anything."
