Lesson Transcript

Hi, everybody!
Do you know how to say “Bye” in Hungarian? In this lesson, you'll learn three parting expressions in Hungarian.
Let’s start with the easiest one.
Viszontlátásra
[slowly] Viszontlátásra
This means "Goodbye" in Hungarian.
We can use this parting expression at any time of the day. The first half of the word, viszont, means something similar to "again." The second part, látásra, means "seeing you."
If you want to say "bye" at night, there is a different phrase you should use.
Jó éjszakát
[slowly] Jó éjszakát
This means "Good night" in Hungarian.
When parting or saying goodbye at night, Jó éjszakát is the most appropriate choice.
If you want to sound more casual, here's a phrase for you.
Szia
[slowly] Szia
This means "bye" in Hungarian.
If you're talking to one person, you would use szia, and for plural subjects, such as a group of your friends, you would use szaiastok. You can use both of these for "goodbye" as well.
Let's wrap up this lesson by recapping what you've learned. Listen to the words and repeat after me.
