Hi Rene,

Magyar vagyok is indeed "I am Hungarian."

Nem magyar vagyok and nem vagyok magyar - these are correct, but they are used in different contexts.

Nem vagyok magyar is "I am not Hungarian." This is a simple statement you would use to someone who thinks you're Hungarian. Maybe someone is talking to you in fast-paced Hungarian on the bus. You want to correct that person, let them know you don't understand everything.

Nem magyar vagyok has that same use, but there is an additional dimension to it, because a Hungarian person would expect some sort of extra information. "I am not Hungarian, but American."

Nem magyar vagyok, hanem amerikai (vagyok.)

Let me give you another example:

Fáradt vagy? "Are you tired?"

Nem vagyok fáradt. "I am not tired."

Nem fáradt vagyok, hanem beteg. "I'm not tired, but sick."

Did that help? Let me know if you need more examples!

Sziastok!

I have a question about word order.

I think that "I am Hungarian" = "Magyar vagyok" (with the verb at the end)

In this lesson, I saw "Nem vagyok magyar.(I am not Hungarian)". Why is "magyar" now at the end? :open_mouth:
